Wire Rope Slings

Wire rope slings are extremely reliable assemblies for lifting and moving very heavy objects.

Any construction job absolutely needs wire rope slings in order to get the job done.  These are extremely useful for lifting very heavy objects safely, over any height or distance.  They are great alternatives to nylon, and chain slings tend to buckle under the pressure of extremely heavy objects.  Wire rope slings are the best for the really heavy loads like girders or massive piles of lumber, when you need to carry the load in completely confidence.  When used in conjunction with a crane, you have a tool that you can count on for practically any application.

When it comes to wire rope slings, there are a wide variety of different types to choose from.  The main deciding factor in the quality of the sling is essentially the type of metal that they are wrought from.  In most cases the wires will be crafted from steel, and nothing else will suffice for the big jobs.  But the main importance in the quality of your wire rope slings is the type of core that is employed.  Some slings feature solid steel cores, and these are the absolute strongest.  Nothing else will suffice when you need to carry the most absolutely heavy objects.

But there are also other types of cores that can be found within wire rope slings.  Some of the most common alternative materials include manila, jute and hemp.  While these clamps are also very strong, they don’t provide quite the same stability.  However, while a steel core cannot be bent at all, an alternative core can bend slightly without suffering damage.  This can be important depending upon the type of maneuvering that you require.  But as with any other type of wire rope slings, you’ll still need to carefully monitor their quality, to ensure you don’t suffer any problems from degrading or fraying wires.

The main risk of any wire rope slings, is that the wires will fray and they will become unsafe for use.  Overtime the wires are going to break down eventually, but there are a few risk factors that can wear down a sling faster than it would be worn normally.  The most common risk is using the wire rope slings in the rain, or other moist environment.  This can cause corrosion to begin within the steel, which can lead to your sling rusting and the wire fraying much faster than normal.  Another huge risk is bending, as steel doesn’t accommodate bending of any sort.  Bending the sling too much will result in the wires fraying and breaking much more quickly than you would like.

When it comes to purchasing wire rope slings, you’re always going to want to use a construction supplies retailer.  The best of which can always be found online, where prices are guaranteed to be cheaper than items you can find locally.  Through sites like USCargoControl.com you can find wire rope slings of any type, that are affordable for any job.  Just make sure that the sling you choose is fully tested for the amount of weight that you will be applying.  This way you can guarantee that the sling can handle your load, without a problem.
